Questions

What people ask, answered plainly

The questions we are actually asked about this route, answered plainly and without figures.

01

How does a UK to Finland move actually travel?

By road to a Channel crossing, across the European motorway network, then a Baltic leg — either a direct sea crossing to a Finnish port or up through Sweden and across. Which one suits your load depends on the volume and the season, and we tell you which before you book rather than after.

02

Part load or full load?

Most household moves to Finland are part loads sharing a vehicle with others going the same way, because few UK households fill a trailer on their own. A full load makes sense for a whole house with firm dates at both ends. We say plainly which applies rather than quoting the larger option quietly.

03

Is Finland in the EU?

Yes — EU, Schengen and the Eurozone. That makes the customs position different from a non-EU Nordic destination: goods move within the single market, and what you need is the transfer-of-residence process rather than a full third-country import entry. It is still paperwork, and it still has to be right.

04

Do you collect outside London?

Anywhere in the UK. Most Finnish loads are consolidated, so a collection round is normal and a second address on the route is usually practical rather than expensive.

05

Can you store before the move?

Yes, and it is common on this route. Sale dates and residence paperwork rarely coincide, so goods are packed, wrapped and inventoried here, stored indoors, and loaded when the file is genuinely complete.

06

What is transfer-of-residence relief?

The mechanism that lets you bring used household goods into Finland without paying duty when you are genuinely moving your normal residence. It needs evidence that you are relocating and a detailed inventory of what is coming. We prepare the inventory and tell you plainly which documents only you can obtain.

07

What paperwork do I need to produce myself?

Proof of residence at both ends and identity documents, at minimum. The exact list depends on your circumstances, and we mark clearly on day one which items are ours and which are yours rather than raising it in the final fortnight.

08

Is there anything I cannot bring?

The usual restricted categories — certain plants, foodstuffs, alcohol above allowances, weapons, and anything requiring a licence. We flag anything in your inventory that falls into those at survey rather than at a border.

09

How is the inventory used?

Three ways from one document: it prices the move, it becomes the customs packing list, and it is the condition record at delivery. That is why it is written carefully rather than as a rough list of rooms.

10

Do you deliver outside the main cities?

Yes — Oulu, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lahti, Joensuu, Vaasa, Rovaniemi and the smaller towns. Rural and northern addresses take longer to reach and sometimes need a smaller vehicle for the last stretch, both of which are settled at quote stage.

11

Does winter change anything?

It changes planning rather than possibility. Northern and rural deliveries in deep winter want more flexibility on the day, and an unmade approach may need a transfer to a smaller vehicle. We check conditions rather than assume.

12

What does export packing involve?

A heavier specification than a domestic move: stronger cartons, more edge and corner protection, moisture protection on upholstery and mattresses, purpose-made cases for framed work and mirrors, and crating for stone and glass. A load crossing a border travels further and is handled more.

13

Can you pack everything?

Full, part, or fragile-only. On this route we would usually recommend at least having the fragile items packed by us, because an opened carton at a border needs to match the paperwork.

14

Are my things insured?

Goods in transit and storage cover are in place, with the usual conditions around owner-packed cartons and items of unusual value. Declare anything genuinely valuable at survey and we will confirm in writing what applies.

15

Do you move cars or pets?

Neither. Both need specialists and we will say so rather than taking on something we are not set up for.

16

What about apartment access in Helsinki?

Finnish apartment buildings are generally well built for it — proper stairwells, frequently a lift, and a yard or loading area. What varies is whether a lift takes furniture and whether the building has a booking arrangement. We ask before quoting.

17

Can you handle a move back from Finland?

Yes. The route runs both ways and the paperwork mirrors: returning residents have their own relief position, and the inventory does the same three jobs in reverse.

18

How far ahead should I book?

As early as you can. Consolidated loads run to a schedule rather than on demand, so flexibility on the date generally gets you a better-placed slot.

19

Do you cover other countries?

This site is the Finland route only. Our network has separate hubs for France, Italy and Portugal, linked in the footer.

Still not answered?

Put it in the notes on the quote form. Services covers what we do, coverage covers where, and European removals covers moves that leave the country.
