Storage on either side of the move

Storage on either side of the move — wrapped, inventoried and racked indoors while a sale completes or a residence file comes together.

Storage appears on more Finland quotes than people expect, and almost always for the same reason: the house sells when it sells, the paperwork completes when it completes, and the two rarely line up.

How it works

Goods are packed and wrapped as if for transit, listed on an inventory you keep a copy of, and sealed into containers racked indoors. When the file is complete and the schedule suits, the same consignment loads for Finland — no second packing, no second inventory.

  • One handling into store and one out
  • The same inventory that will later clear customs
  • Furniture wrapped before it goes in, not after it has been scuffed
  • Quoted alongside the move rather than after it

Why it usually saves money

The alternatives are worse. Rushing a transfer-of-residence application produces refusals, which cost weeks. Holding a UK property you have already left costs rather more than a few weeks of storage. And moving twice — into temporary accommodation and out again — costs a whole second move.

Which end

Usually the UK end, because that is where the gap falls. Occasionally Finland makes more sense, depending on the destination and what is holding things up. Tell us where the delay actually is and we will say which is more practical rather than defaulting to ours.

Worth knowing

Storage questions

01Why is storage so common on this route?

Because sale dates and residence paperwork rarely coincide. Storing here while the file completes is cheaper than rushing a document or holding a property you have already left.

02Where is it stored?

Indoors, containerised, wrapped as if for transit and listed on an inventory you keep a copy of.

03Can I access it?

With notice, during working hours. It is a service rather than a unit you walk into.

04Can you store in Finland instead?

Sometimes, depending on the destination. Tell us which end the gap is at and we will say which is more practical.

05Is stored property covered?

Yes, with the usual conditions around owner-packed cartons and items of unusual value. Declare anything genuinely valuable before it goes in.
