Removals to Helsinki

The capital and Uusimaa — apartment deliveries, courtyard access, lift bookings, and the busiest last leg on the route.

Helsinki is the most common destination on this route and the one where the last leg is most often an apartment rather than a house. That changes what matters.

Finnish apartment buildings, generally

Better built for a delivery than most British equivalents: proper stairwells, wide enough communal doors, frequently a lift, and a yard or designated loading area rather than a fight for kerb space. The default expectation is that this will go smoothly.

What we still ask

  • Which floor, and whether the lift takes furniture rather than just people
  • Whether the building wants the delivery booked or a caretaker told
  • Whether there is yard access or a designated loading area
  • How tight the stairwell turn is, if the lift is out of the question

The older central districts

Kruununhaka, Ullanlinna, Punavuori and parts of the centre have handsome older blocks where the stairwell is narrower and the lift — if there is one — was fitted into a light well rather than designed in. Those are entirely workable and they want knowing about in advance, so tell us the address rather than just the city.

Winter

Not an obstacle, but it wants flexibility. Snow clearance and yard access are the variables rather than the roads, which are maintained properly. We plan a winter delivery with more room in the day than a summer one.

Nearby

Espoo and Vantaa are next door and behave differently — more low-rise, more parking, easier deliveries. Full list on destinations.

Helsinki questions

01What is delivery into a Helsinki apartment like?

Generally well organised. Finnish apartment buildings are built for it — proper stairwells, frequently a lift, and a yard or loading area. What varies is whether the lift takes furniture and whether the building wants the delivery booked.

02Is there anywhere to park?

Usually a yard or a designated loading area rather than the street. We ask about it at quote stage because in the older central districts it is the one thing that can slow a delivery badly.

03Do the older central buildings cause problems?

Sometimes. Kruununhaka, Ullanlinna and parts of the centre have handsome older blocks with narrow stairwells and lifts that are not sized for a wardrobe. Worth telling us the address rather than just the city.

04Can you deliver in winter?

Yes, with more flexibility on the day. Snow clearance and yard access are the variables rather than the road itself.
